veus welcome the canary No to NATO and the requirement withdrawal of troops in Afghanistan
This March 12 we returned to celebrate, some 250 people, a new anniversary, 24, the great victory won by the Canarian people in the referendum on NATO held on March 12, 1986. On that historic date, Canary said no to NATO. Memory is what persists, and today we continue to struggle against the aggressive military organization of imperialist capitalism.
The following is the manifesto read at the end of the demonstration outside the Government Office. MANIFESTO
CAPITALISM IS WAR, not the wars of the capital, NO TO NATO
Today when we meet * 24 YEARS OF NON-NATO CANARIAS A *, these slogans, and historical, are hatefully portrayed in data not only affirm their reality, but the worse with the appearance of signals from new scenarios and new attacks, which begin to emerge and spread from large distribution centers of global capital.
just fifteen days ago massacred 33 NATO Afghan civilians, killed in addition to the hundred of last June, and thousands of men, women, children and elderly who have been murdered in that country by the troops of this criminal organization, since its territory was invaded in 2001.
This country (Afghanistan) to be in 2010 to 150,000 soldiers, Western invaders across its borders, under the guise of global security is the best example of the plans of capitalist elites * *. They, through its armed organization (NATO) claim that the world's people docile and quietly accept the perpetuation, through blood and fire, assault, looting and plundering that capitalism imposes on continents the whole planet, as part of its strategy vital for development, but also as a clear expression of its historical failure.
Afghanistan is the open stage, but there are others who are gradually revealing: for two years, NATO has been launching operations against the "piracy" Somali and more quiet, in combination with the EU, has done so in areas close to Yemen, making these countries (Somalia and Yemen) in the new NATO objectives, counting with the agreement of EU governments, including the English State.
the States last December Carried out deadly U.S. military attack in Yemen: aerial bombardments in the north and cruise missile attacks in the south of the nation. The umbrella of NATO served for the U.S. murdered a still unknown number of civilians in such attacks in both parts of the country.
was not enough, it never is for capitalist depredation. The West has even broader plans to Yemen, including plans to conduct military operations from that area (north-eastern Africa) and across the continent, reaching the border with China. In that line the spokespersons of the European governments that are members of NATO have been quick to try to provide a justification for these crimes. Thus, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said that "* the weakness of al Qaeda in Pakistan have been forced to leave that country and go to Yemen and Somalia. Yemen has been recognized, like Somalia, as one of the areas in which not only have to be aware but we have to do something more. "* On the other hand, while making clear to the imperialist strategy of the English government, Foreign Minister of the Government of the PSOE, Miguel Angel Moratinos, added: "We must not lose sight of that region. AL Qaeda is also active in Yemen, his presence is growing concern there, and Africa is a continent that we have not paid enough attention. "
In the same vein, the executive José Luis RodrÃguez Zapatero, he has held since January, the EU presidency, has spent hundreds of millions of euros to avoid, they say, the so-called Somali piracy, that is, but not what they say to refer to fighters in Somalia to fight the plunder of their traditional sources of life, coming to stop some of them illegally.
That is the true face of this government (also EU) to allocate more public money to imperialist wars, thus sacrificing the work product of men and women who, at the same time, see how every day its terms more precarious employment and how the services universal that have taken centuries of sacrifice to the working class and people of this country are equipped with increasingly less resources or just privatized.
invasion war in Afghanistan has cost in eight years, 1562 million euros (365 correspond to 2009, the worst year of the crisis, in parallel, has left 4 million unemployed workers) . In 2010 the English government in Afghanistan will have three times more soldiers and will double the cost of calls overseas missions, ie doubling the theft of public funds in the occupation and aggression disguised countries and peoples under the umbrella NATO. In total planned expenditure in these missions, which are of war and crime (not peacekeeping or security) of the English army will arrive this year to 800 million euros. Each soldier costs the day, and costs the working people, and 1300 euros (more than double the minimum wage, set at 634 euros).
These figures show us that * today, 24 years after the canary NO to NATO, the present and the future return to the town require the positioning firm, rejection and confrontation to the invasive policies of occupation and theft blatant natural resources of countries and peoples that this organization represents mercenary and criminal; confrontation with the waste also posed to the public accounts of the governments that support it. Afghanistan
reference serves today, but do not forget what happened in the Balkans, Lebanon, Somalia or Yemen, nor the constant threat that hangs over NATO peoples of the world, in places and massacred or to new sites for their crimes orchestrated and abuses.
We can not ignore that * of the 1,400 English soldiers in the Afghan occupation, hundreds are canaries. These islands, with 30% unemployment, double the state average, pushes young people to enlist in the army, almost as the only way to find work and thus become cannon fodder to protect foreign interests, which are not those of the majority, but, on the contrary, the interests of a minority that is enriched at their expense.
Today when we met 24 YEARS OF NO OF CANARIES TO NATO, these people have returned to the streets to demand:
1. The dissolution of NATO and withdraw its occupation troops from Afghanistan and any place on earth where they are.
2. The reinvestment of military expenditures in social spending
3. Canary's statement as a Platform for Peace
4. The enactment of a statute of Neutrality for the Canaries
NO TO NATO!
mercenary troops out of Afghanistan!
No to war for oil!
not the destruction of the planet!
Capitalism is war! No to the wars of the capital!
for self-determination of peoples
No to imperialist wars against the peoples
for peace, disarmament and sustainable world
Yes to employment, not war
