Jerez Action: December 12
On Saturday 12 December at 12am., In the Plaza del Arenal, is hosting Concentration of protest against the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. We demand the withdrawal of the English Army and refuse to send more troops.
Attached is the text of an information booklet to disseminate openly.
No to war!
Troops Out of Afghanistan
is increasingly clear that Afghanistan is under military occupation and war. No is rebuilding the country. Has not brought democracy to Afghanistan. Has not been released to Afghan women. The occupation will only bring more deaths, both among the Afghan population and among the occupying troops. The reasons that existed for withdrawing troops from Iraq in 2004 apply to the Afghan case today.
But far from withdrawing from Afghanistan, the English government is increasingly involved in the occupation. The sending of 200 soldiers (and 5,000 NATO) and the assumption of command of Kabul airport are only the latest examples of this barbarity. The government is trying, at all times and against all evidence, presenting the English army as an NGO, and disguise occupation of humanitarian mission. In this receives support from the press that, unlike in 2003, is almost unanimously in favor of the war and occupation.
Nevertheless, most public opinion in the English government continues to oppose the current military presence in Afghanistan. Only 3% of the population (and only 1% of women) supported the government's policy of sending more troops. 41% defended the withdrawal (up to 47% among women), and another 19% favor reducing the quota. (Data from the Elcano Royal Institute Barometer, June 2009). But the fact that sending more troops to Afghanistan to have even less support than had the war in Iraq in 2003, is ignored.
The undersigned organizations have agreed to promote a campaign to voice the majority opinion, demanding the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and refusing to send more troops.
In doing so, we will not forget the other current and pressing problems of a world hit by the economic and ecological crisis, quite the opposite. These crises are closely related to the war in the Middle East. The huge military spending, never justifiable, now also remove resources for social purposes, such as support for jobless people and their families. And everyone knows that these wars and occupations are the result an economy based on oil, which is the main cause of climate change.
We are also aware that the English State's reputation is at stake in Afghanistan. By participating in the occupation, the English government seeks to improve its image in NATO and the G20.
believe that its international reputation would gain much more if you defend the principles of peace, and withdraw the troops, as it did in Iraq in 2004. If this is incompatible with participation in NATO, then it is a reason to withdraw from this military alliance, which should be abolished anyway.
not be easy to achieve a withdrawal from Afghanistan, but we know that while the occupation continues to be impossible to achieve social progress in this country. The Afghan people have already suffered 30 years of war, we owe our solidarity and our efforts to contribute to living in peace.
The groups that promote this campaign convened a protest rally by the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan on Saturday, December 12, at 12 am, at Plaza del Arenal.
Now as always, no war, the occupation forces out!
immediate return of English troops!
